Scepter of Madness

This silver rod is adorned with diamond-like triangles of mithral atop of one end, lending it an appearance similar to a mace or scepter. The remainder of the rod is a slender shaft of silver, capped with a black opal at its nether end. The entire scepter is about two feet long.
The scepter is a cursed. When held in the company of other beings the wielder must immediately make a Will save (DC 19) or succumb to a terrible delirium. Those who succeed will sense an uncomfortable feeling of being watched by something malicious. Those who fail suddenly see their companions drawing their weapons and attacking. Anything the companions say to the stricken victim sounds malevolent, taunting, or false. The victim believes that his companions are attacking him while in fact he begins to attack himself with his own weapons. In addition, the victim begins to hear indistinct whispering voices, foretelling doom, and begins to see things like their companions eyes glint red, teeth grow sharp, or fingernails grow long like claws. A second or additional saving throw is allowed to the victim once every 1d4+1 rounds.
